Mrs. Albert D. Bemis Dies At Hospital Here Tuesday
Mrs. Oleida von Kaas Bemis, 65, wife of Albert D. Bemis, 305 Michigan avenue, passed away late Tuesday evering at Sheboygan Memorial hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. Bemis was born Sept. 27, 1878, in Sheboygan, the daughter of Hans and Louise von Kaas. She attended one of the first private kindergartens in the city, the Second ward school, and graduated from high school in June, 1898.
She took a kindergarten training course under Mrs. E. Strickland, following her graduation from high school, and then taught kindergarten at the Sheridan school from 1899 to 1902.
On June 16, 1903, she was married to Albert D. Bemis. She was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Jennie Mead Circle of the King's Daughters, the Sheboygan Woman's club, Dorcas chapter of the First Congregational church, Sheboygan Music club and the Wayside Reading Group.
Formerly active in the local Girl Scout organization, she served for many years as treasurer of the Girl Scout Council.
Through her affiliation with the organizations lister, she mad made many friends. Those who knew her intimately praised her faithfulness. She radiated much friendliness. Mrs. Bemis was a lover of beauty, and her home meant everything to her.
Survivors are her husband; three children, Mrs. Lester (Gertrude) Laun of Elkhart Lake, Capt. Francis von Kaas Bemis of Camp McCoy, and Miss Rebecca, a student at Madison; four grandsons and two granddaughters, a sister, Mrs. Kenneth Kugel, of Washington.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2.30 p.m. at the Ballhorn Funeral chapels, the REv. Wilford H. Evans, paster of the First Congregational church officiating, and interment will be made in the family lot in Wildwood cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapels beginning Thursday morning.
